6 Lessons from Lauren Bacall

Yesterday we lost one of the few remaining Old Hollywood Starlets, Lauren Bacall.  So in honor of her amazing life, here are 6 lessons we can learn from the Hollywood legend…

If you look at pics of Ms. Bacall over the years, her hair changes very little.  Sometimes it’s a little shorter, but it is almost always side parted with an Old Hollywood wave.  This basic hairstyle was flattering and yet didn’t distract attention from her signature stare.

Most of the photos of Ms. Bacall show her in outfits that can be easily worn today, yet she always looks stunning.  She even manages to make pearls a little less demure. (more…)

InStyle Inspiration: Candy Apple Red

Candy Apple Red Linen Pin Up Girl Dress

I have to admit I’m a little obsessed with fashion magazines.  I like my look to be more classic, so I try not to focus too much on trends, but I like to know what’s going on in the world of fashion.  InStyle magazine is one of the few magazines that I subscribe to and will read religiously every month.  So I decided to try a look inspired by the August issue.  The article was a Color Crash Course: Candy Apple Red.  (more…)

#OOTD Inspiration: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof

One of the things that I love about Old Hollywood films is that, not only is the fashion gorgeous, but I also tends to be timeless.  Never is that more true than in Elizabeth Taylor’s role in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.  The movie itself is amazing… with Ms. Taylor and her costar Paul Newman at their most sexy.  But my favorite thing about the film is Ms. Taylor’s wardrobe.  She only has a few looks (and her stunning white dress is the most memorable), but I love her pencil skirt and blouse combo.  I decided to recreate the look for everyday.  This look is inexpensive, it’s timeless, flattering on many figures, and perfect for a summer work outfit…

Role Playing: Elizabeth Taylor

I’ve recreated famous photos of Brigitte Bardot and Lana Turner.  This time I’ve attempted to recreate one of my favorite photos of Elizabeth Taylor.  I actually bought this shirt from Old Navy a few years ago because of this photo.  But it wasn’t until my recent trip to North Conway that I finally got around to take the photo.  I guess it’s appropriate that it took me so long to take the picture… Liz was famous for being late (even requesting that she arrive late to her own funeral).  I hope I made Ms. Taylor proud…

My Everyday Starlet Summer Reading List

I have to admit, I have been spending so much time writing that I have been slacking off on my reading.  I’ve even made it one of my Summer goals to do more reading.  I have so many books (I’m still partial to actual books, I haven’t moved to a tablet yet), some that I have yet to read, and some that I am dying to re-read.  I completed my “year one” reading of my IFB Back to Blogger School reading list and I am taking a little break before I start year two.  So I got some suggestions from IFB’s Summer Reading List sildenafil citrate canadian pharmacy , and I dug into my own library and came up with a summer reading list:

How to Find Your Personal Starlet Style

There’s one thing Hollywood Legends have in common (besides money, of course) and that’s a signature look.  True Glamour Icons think of themselves as a brand, and they rarely stray from that.  Can you imagine Elizabeth Taylor without diamonds?  Or Gwen Stefani without her cool girl chic look?  Of course not… that’s because these Starlets found their “look.”  If you are going to be an Everyday Starlet you need to find a signature look that suits you.  Finding your style is a long process, and it may (and probably will) evolve over time. Silver Screen Style: Cat on Hot Tin Roof

The Superbowl is coming this weekend, and there is no reason a Starlet can’t get in in the fun.  How about some style from one of our favorite Old Hollywood movies, Cat on Hot Tin Roof.  Elizabeth Taylor is a desperate housewife trying to seduce her ex-football star husband, Paul Newman.  There is no question that they are two of the sexiest stars in all of history.  And Ms. Taylor gives a mind-blowing performance… but it’s hard to get past her fabulous fashion…

Starlets in a Snowstorm

Not all Everyday Starlets live in sunny California.  Some, like me, live far from it.  Here in New England we are having major snow storm… but for a true Starlet that just means an opportunity to break out the chic outerwear, and maybe play in the snow.  Here are some Starlets at their snow bunny best…

Silver Screen Style: Charade

Nothing is better on a cold New England New Years Eve than snuggling with someone you love and watching a movie.  This past NYE, my boyfriend suggested the Cary Grant/Audrey Hepburn classic Charade (I know, how lucky am I).  I can’t believe I had never seen this film before.  It was funny, suspenseful, and definitely entertaining… but I couldn’t get past how timeless Audrey Hepburn’s fashion was.  Here are some of her looks for inspiration…
