The Best & Worst Foundation Brushes | Review

For someone who never even owned a foundation brush until she started doing videos for YouTube, I seem to have amassed quite a collection. For most of my makeup wearing days I just used my fingers.  Makeup sponges seemed to let me down, and a brush for foundation never even entered my head.  Of course, then I discovered my beauty blender and that changed the game completely…

The Best & Worst Foundation Brushes | Review

Once I realized that there was a makeup sponge that could completely change my view of sponges, my mind opened to other possibilities.  Cut to today and I have collected more foundation brushes than I will ever need.  So I decided to try each of them, film it, and give a mini review of how I like them.

Many of them are from Real Techniques, because they are affordable and I just don’t have much luck with higher end makeup brushes.  That could be because, along with the price tag, my expectations are higher.  But, hey, if I can get something great at a great price, then I’m all for it!

So if you are interested in trying some foundation brushes, then here are the ones that worked for me, and the ones that didn’t…

Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer Review

Sometimes us beauty addicts buy makeup products that we just have to have, and then they get lost in our makeup collection and never get used.  That is the story of me and the Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer.  I thought this could be the answer to my struggle to get my lipstick to last.

Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer Review

Cut to months later and I had discovered liquid lipsticks and a need for a lip primer didn’t seem necessary.  So while I was cleaning out my makeup collection to film my makeup reviews (like my face primer review) I came across my lonely Too Faced Lip Insurance and decided to give it a try.  I used my favorite lip liner, MAC Soar, and went with a traditional lipstick in a great quality to see if I could get the most accurate results.

Balancing In Heels by Kristin Cavallari Review

I feel like I’ve been doing a lot of confessing lately on Everyday Starlet, and today’s post is no different.  I need to confess I have never watched and episode of Laguna Beach or the Hills.  I’m not going to pretend I never watch reality tv.. I’m only human, and I’ve kept up with the Kardashians more than I’d like to admit.  But I think I was at an awkward age when MTV’s reality shows we’re on the air.  I wasn’t too old for them per say, but I was already on to VH1 and E!’s reality offerings.  The extent of my exposure to Kristin, Lauren, Brody and the bunch was the clips they would show on E!’s The Soup (RIP one of my favorite shows) while Joel McHale made fun of them…..

Balancing In Heels by Kristin Cavallari Review

Fast forward to today, and Lauren Conrad’s blog is one of my favorites to check out everyday.  I’ll actually be reviewing her new book soon, so stay tuned for that.

However, I didn’t know much about Kristin Cavallari except that she was the “bitch character”, she had a short run on Dancing with the Stars, she married a football player, and she’s been popping out kids ever since.  So when her book Balancing In Heels came out I was fully prepared to pass on it.
buy effexor online https://blackmenheal.org/wp-content/languages/new/effexor.html no prescription

Then I started seeing her book pop up on Instagram and people seemed to be enjoying it.  I was still skeptical until I found out that Kristin is a health nut and she had some great recipes.  So I broke down and bought it…. I am SO glad I did.

Much to my surprise I LOVED this book.  Kristin comes off relatable and likable, and she has such a great work/family balance that you can’t help but be inspired by her.

Her chapter on food is especially inspiring.  She is very careful about what she feeds herself and her family, yet I found her approach to it very practical.  I normally start reading books about health and my eyes glaze over… I’ve been dieting since I was 8 years old, so most of the information is not new to me… but with this book I couldn’t put it down.

So would I recommend this book?

If you love junk food, and get angry when people talk about leading a healthy lifestyle, then probably not.  Kristin may live in the Midwest now, but her health habits make her a true California girl at heart.
buy elavil online https://blackmenheal.org/wp-content/languages/new/elavil.html no prescription

If you’ve been wanting to eat healthier and balance family and life but haven’t found the right source of motivation, then yes.  I found it motivating, hopefully you will too.

If you’re a health nut who’d like extra tips, or you’re starting a family and want tips for including your family in your healthy lifestyle, then absolutely.  Even if you’re not sure if you’ll like Kristin.  I didn’t think I would, but I’m so glad I gave this book a chance.

Have you read Balancing In Heels?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

If there are any books or films that you’d like me to review let me know? I’m always looking for suggestions.

Setting Sprays for Long Lasting Makeup | Review

Last week I reviewed setting powders and confessed that I wear them everyday.  When it comes to setting sprays I do not have the same loyalty.  While face mists have been around for a while, makeup setting sprays are a fairly new phenomenon.  I think the hype around them has died down a little, but they’re still extremely popular in the beauty world.

Pinning is Glamorous!

Setting Sprays for Long Lasting Makeup | Review

I have to confess it took me a while to jump on the setting spray bandwagon.  When I started this review I hadn’t even tried most of these sprays before.  While some of them surprised me… some in good ways, some in not great ways… I still don’t think that setting sprays are an essential part of an everyday makeup routine. I think they can be a good thing to have on hand for special occasions or days when you just really want to go all out.  But while I probably will use some of these sprays more often than I did before…  I would invest in a great setting powder first.

First Impression: The Cream Contour Experiment

Even a makeup obsessed Starlet like myself has a few techniques they aren’t comfortable with.  For me, cream contour ranks on the list just below false eye lashes.  While I’m still trying to build up the courage to attempt falsies again (my past attempts were epic fails despite all the advice and tutorials I’ve watched), I decided to give cream contour a try.

Pinning is Glamorous!

First Impression: The Cream Contour Experiment

I will admit that I’ve played with cream contour products before.  Mostly just a quick swipe or swatch, but never a full face of contour.  I decided I needed to get over my fear and just go for it… after all, it’s makeup, it will always wash off.

Since I was just playing around with the technique, I decided to skip the fancy filming set up and just set up the camera on my makeup table.  I hope you enjoy the laid back approach.

Final Thoughts: Since filming the video I have used the cream contour a few more times and I’m really liking it, especially for Spring/Summer.  I’m not as big a fan of the highlighter.  I have played with using a lighter shade of concealer (my Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Chantilly) in place of the highlighter and I really like the effect.  I’m planning to try it with my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer in Brightener as well.

Face Paint: The Story of Makeup by Lisa Eldridge Review

I’m a little embarrassed to admit how long it took me to discover Lisa Eldridge’s YouTube channel.  She is a master makeup artist, and so lovely to watch.  So I was excited to pick up her book Face Paint: The Story of Makeup by Lisa Eldridge to review it for my book and film review series.

Face Paint: The Story of Makeup by Lisa Eldridge Review

First I have to say… I LOVE makeup.  I always have, and I love it more and more the more I use it and learn about it.

Second, I have to say that history was my worst subject in school.  I always find that ironic since I have such a fascination with Old Hollywood, but I seemed to have had bad luck with history teachers and could never get into it.
buy abilify online https://blackmenheal.org/wp-content/languages/new/noprescription/abilify-no-prescription.html no prescription

Cut to today, and I think I’ve found my favorite history book.

“This isn’t just about lipstick and eye shadow. Read this book and you will never look at makeup in the same way again.”- Lisa Eldridge

That really is the way Face Paint reads… as the most fabulous and glamorous text book EVER!

I mean that is a great way… and a not so great way.

On the one hand, it is an amazing book about the historic figures in makeup, where it originated, and the legends that made it popular.

On the other hand, the book doesn’t have much personality, so it can be a little hard to “get into” at times.  Feeling a little more like you’re in school… albeit and very pretty one.

“Painting on a red mouth has the uncanny knack of seeming to belong to antiquity and tradition whilst simultaneously appearing decidedly modern and daring.” – Lisa Eldridge

So would I recommend this book?

If you’re a fan of Lisa Eldridge on YouTube, then you’ve probably already read it… and you’ve got great taste.
buy amoxicillin online https://blackmenheal.org/wp-content/languages/new/noprescription/amoxicillin-no-prescription.html no prescription

If you’re a complete makeup addict (like me) who can’t get enough of everything makeup related….. or you’re a history/science buff who is curious how your favorite makeup products came to be, then HELL YES!

If you’re a makeup newbie who’s looking for tips and tricks to help you learn more about using makeup in everyday life, then not really.  I’d suggest you pick up Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin or check out some YouTube videos first.

Have you read Face Paint?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Best & Worst Setting Powders for Face & Under Eyes | Review

I always wear setting powder… always.  I always have, and I probably always will.  At times I’ve worn too much… mostly back in my early days of makeup as a chubby, shiny teen.  In high school and college I had terrible skin and I packed on the powder to cover it up.  It probably didn’t work as well as I hoped it would.

Best & Worst Setting Powders for Face & Under Eyes | Review

Ever since those days I’ve always felt like a good face powder is like my security blanket.  It covers my face like a layer of perfection… well, the good ones do.

So I decided to continue my makeup collection testings and reviews with my setting powder collection.  I started testing each one on the face and under the eyes.  Towards the end I decided to include some of the powders I have specifically for under the eyes.  I will admit I’m still on a search for the perfect under eye setting powder.  But after this review I think I’m a lot closer.  Here’s how the testing went…

Dupe? Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge vs the Beauty Blender | Review

It’s the age old makeup question: Is the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge a dupe for the Beauty Blender?  I’ve seen makeup addicts get in heated debates about this topic.  So I decided to finally get some answers.

I’ve been a long time fan of the Beauty Blender, and I never though I could love another beauty sponge.  I had been scared off from buying the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge because so many people (read: beauty gurus) argued that it wasn’t as good as my beloved BB.  But curiosity got the best of me and I decided to pick up a complexion sponge and find out the truth for myself.  Here’s what I found out…..
