DIY Embellished Boyfriend Jeans… the Easiest DIY Ever!

DIY Embellished Boyfriend Jeans... the Easiest DIY Ever! - EverydayStarlet.com @SarahBlodgett

With the Holiday Season upon us, sparkle is everywhere!  As a Starlet, I could not be happier!  I would add sparkle to just about anything.  So I was excited to see it even showing up on denim.

I’ve been seeing embellished boyfriend jeans popping up in fashion magazines.  They’re a great holiday option for a night out or a holiday party where you want to be casual yet still festive.  However, embellished denim can be expensive.

I’ve come up with the absolute easiest DIY ever.  I took some brooches (also a big trend right now) and pinned them on my boyfriend jeans.  This way you can control where you want the embellishment, and you can change up the same jeans to look brand new every night of the week (but don’t forget to do laundry eventually).

You can get this look with any brooches, just make sure they are secure so you don’t loose them, or worse, stab yourself.  Check your favorite stores for brooches, or find some vintage ones on Etsy.

Cherry Dollface Vintage Pin-up Hair & Makeup in Worcester MA

Cherry Dollface Vintage Pinup hair and makeup class

This past Sunday I had the chance to take a Vintage Pin-Up Hair and Makeup Class with Cherry Dollface and the Crompton Collective in Worcester. I stumbled across her YouTube Channel by accident and loved her videos, so I was so excited to hear she was coming to my hometown.  It never ceases to amaze me how much more there is to learn about anything, even things you think you know everything about.  I have a Cosmetology license, and have studied hair and makeup in magazines and books since I hit puberty, but even I walked away from Sunday’s class feeling inspired and learning a few new tricks.

Cherry did a full pin-up makeup look on a model, and then two vintage hairstyles on two models.  She talked and answered questions throughout.  She is surprisingly approachable… then again I’m always surprised when anyone seems approachable.  The class was small, which I though worked really well because everyone got plenty of chances to ask questions.  Cherry used a variety of products, but in particular she promoted Bomber Betty cosmetics…. And she also gave a shout out to Sugar Pill products because she likes the products and the owner, stating “I like to support people to aren’t assholes.”

Cherry also used Big Sexy Hair products, many of which I have actually been dying to try, and she told us she uses Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo and styling treatment.

Starlet at ComiCon

This past weekend I was asked to perform my stand-up comedy set at Connecticut Comiconn.  I was excited (and so was my comic-book-geek boyfriend).  I didn’t want to dress up in character because I would be doing a comedy set as myself, but I did want to dress up.  I found this adorable, comfortable, and affordable dress at Dr Jays, and paired it with this vintage inspired purse, ballet flats (I knew there would be a lot of walking and standing so heels were out of the question), and I took this opportunity to try a fun new hairstyle

Vintage Girl Studios Photoshoot

Nothing makes a girl feel like a Starlet more than a photoshoot.  It doesn’t really matter if the photos are to promote a new Hollywood Blockbuster or a family portrait, find a great photographer and book a session.  You can always use professional photos of yourself, so it will always be worth the investment.  I worked with Krzystyna from Vintage Girl Studios a few years ago for some pics for my comedy website, but I decided I wanted some Everyday Starlet inspired photos.  I did my own hair and makeup for the shoot, and I love the results…

Glamorous DIY Makeup Station aka Battlestation

#Battlestation

After reading a post by The Glamorous Housewife, I was inspired to redesign my “Battlestation”… or as some of you may call it, my makeup table.  Growing up, my Mom gave me her childhood desk, with hopes of my becoming a scholar.  As I hit my pre-teen years (the term “tween” was not yet in use) the desk quickly became my makeup station.  That, combined with the fact that I read fashion magazines as if they were fine literature, were enough to end my parents’ hope of my becoming a Harvard grad.  When I moved to my first apartment, one of the first things I needed was a place to get glamorous.  Not having much money, I improvised and created this one.  And, with a few variations, that battlestation has travel with me all these years… now back in my bedroom at my parents’ house next to my Mom’s old desk.  (more…)

Vintage Etsy Finds

I’ve recently fallen in love with Etsy.com.  It’s a great way to vintage shop from the privacy of your own home.  I’ve shared some of my past vintage finds, but here are some of my latest acquisitions…

An adorable embroidered linen towel from the 1940s.  I’m not sure what I’m going to do with it, but it was too cute to pass up.   It’s from Pink Chic Boutique

Spring Features

Today is the first day of Spring… it hardly feels like it here in New England, but the hope of warmer weather is highly anticipated.  A new season is a great time to set some goals for yourself.  I got the idea from one of my favorite blogs, Cupcakes and Cashmere, which posts a list of goals for each season.  I tried this last Summer and I was surprised at how many of my goals I reached.  So I thought I would share with you some of my goals for this Spring…

Get outside more. I’d love to walk or jog outside daily, but in New England that’s not always possible.  But this winter has been so bad I plan to get outside for some sun and fresh air as often as I can.

Stretch daily. I take dance classes weekly and June is our big recital… my dance teacher has added splits to my Jazz dance, so I’ll be focused of getting more flexible until then.

Try this Sesame Noodle recipe with Buckwheat or Soba noodles instead of pasta.

Make an Easter Brunch complete with Mimosas

Try this Grilled Vegetable Salad recipe

Make mint juleps for the Kentucky Derby on May 3rd… and of course treat myself to a new hat.

Have a spa day.  I used to take Saturdays as a beauty day, but then my life got so hectic and I stopped.  I’m longing to have a whole day dedicated to a home facial, mani/pedi, bubble bath, and some fashions mags… maybe a chick flick to round out the day.

Try orange lipstick. It’s out of my comfort zone, but I’d like to find a shade that works for me.

Visit a flea market.  I’ve never been to one, but I’ve always wanted to try it out to see if I can find some cute vintage finds.

Learn more about photography.  I don’t know if I will have time to take a class, but I’m going to start with tips from other blogs like  Pretty Shiny Sparkly, Independent Fashion Bloggers, and To Vogue or Bust.

Post every weekday.  I have been focused on moving Everyday Starlet from blogger to wordpress and redesigning the site, but I plan to get back to posting content regularly.

Make YouTube videos. I’m planning to add some beauty advice/technique videos to Everyday Starlet.  I have some ideas in mind, but if you have any that you’d like to see just leave me a comment below.

What are your goals for Spring?

Starlet Hobbies

You are officially a Starlet, which means your life is a movie.  And your movie would be pretty boring if all you did was sit around and watch TV.  Starlets always seek knowledge.  Think of it as researching for your role in your life movie.  While Starlets tend to choose hobbies that are fitness oriented so she can get a workout in while also having fun.  A Starlet likes to exercise her mind as well.  Here are some hobbies/classes Starlets enjoy:

Art Classes– like life drawing (Starlets love the human form), painting (she loves colors)

Literature courses– Starlet’s love learning about great writers and might also write poetry…. She most definitely keeps a journal, and plans to write her memoirs one day. Here are some Starlet reading ideas.

Acting classes– whether it’s Stanislavski or a local Improv class, this is the perfect way to add a little theatrics to your life and get you out of your shell.

Singing– think seductively draped over a piano not drunkenly shouting at karaoke.

Languages– Starlets dream of traveling to romantic places and speaking romance languages like French and Italian.  Note: watching foreign films with subtitles count as a language lesson.  Bonus it it’s a Brigitte Bardot film.

Brigitte Bardot Bombshell Films

Musical Instruments– Starlets love to make beautiful music whether it is with a guitar, piano, or ukulele

Photography– Starlets love to be in photographs, but she also loves taking pictures as well… this is my recreation of a famous Bardot photo

Cooking– Starlets love to eat, and they love to experiment in the kitchen.  Sometimes her experiments don’t work out, but she loves playing with her food… like Brigitte Bardot’s Tabbouleh recipe

Shopping– Starlets love fashion, and especially love to shop vintage.  Nowadays, many Starlets shop online.  Dita Von Teese loves Ebay.com… I’m partial to Etsy.  I found this great vintage find on Etsy.com.

Going out to shows– Whether it’s to the ballet, or the theater, Starlets love a live performance

Gardening– flowers, vegetables, herbs… Starlets rarely get down and dirty but she will in a cute gardening outfit

Choose any hobbies that appeal to you, and have a fun weekend!

Kisses
