It’s easy to get stuck in our comfort zones…
Every year I get big ideas for the holiday season and usually toss them aside.
One big goal I have every Christmas is to make peanut butter kiss cookies like my Mom used to make every year, but to make my own chocolate kisses with organic chocolate and candy molds. I avoid mainstream candy brands, as they are loaded with chemicals and often contain soy which I adamantly avoid.
The other project I always have wanted to try is to make a homemade Yule Log. I first read about the Buche de Noel in the book Why French Women Don’t Get Fat, and how in France it’s a custom to wait in line at bakeries eagerly waiting for the annual Buche de Noel cake.
Since I’m not in France (even though I like to pretend I’m Parisian), I didn’t trust any bakeries to make them using clean ingredients. So every year for over a decade now I have committed myself to making my own Yule Log.
And every year I chicken out. I’m either too overwhelmed or run out of time. But I always found an excuse.
But this year I made both.
They’re not perfect. But I made them. And I’m proud that I made the time to try something new that was outside of my cooking comfort zone.
I hope this inspires you to try something new that you have wanted to do but have been putting off.
Even though my baking projects aren’t anything revolutionary, they definitely motivated me to take more chances and try new things.
It’s a great way to start the new year!
On that note…
I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Safe New Year!
Love, Sarah
