I used to think I didn’t like Halloween.

There are definitely things about it that don’t resonate with me… like I’m not into horror movies, and I don’t like to be scared.

I mean, let’s be real, as a woman walking to my car alone is scary enough, I don’t need to add extra anxiety to my life.

But I do love a good theme, decorating, crafting, cooking and baking, and I love witchy stuff🖤

The thing is, anytime I had a guy in my life, he was never into holidays. Oftentimes they would even make fun of people who liked to get festive.

So I just let the holidays pass, envious of those who got up enjoy them.

Over the years I realized that I like being creative and even a little (or a lot) extra.

So I decided to let go of my need to conform, and just embrace my extra.

If I want to bake or decorate or dress up, I will.

It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks, because anyone who doesn’t like it is not my person.

And this year I created these cupcakes that are black velvet with blackberry frosting and homemade chocolate skulls🧁💀

I used this Black Velvet Cake recipe (I used avocado oil and they came out so moist) and made them into cupcakes, and then made this Black Raspberry Frosting recipe. I used a soy free chocolate chip brand to melt and pour into skeleton molds. I avoid soy and seed oils in my diet which has been a game changer for my skin and overall health.
