Or Betty Grable in Pin Up Girl
Continuing our Personal Style journey, I wanted to talk to you about signature lip colors. I have touched on them before in our basic makeup lesson, and I’ve looked at the importance of having a signature color. But I wanted to show you some examples from Old Hollywood and New Hollywood, of stars with signature lip colors…

In the last post we talked about loving your body and showing off your best assets. Today I wanted to share with you a story about how I learned to love my body. Now let me state that this “learning to love my body” thing is an ongoing process and there are still things I don’t love as much. But I wanted to share a story how I turned what I perceived as a flaw and realized it was an asset.
In the last post I asked you to forget what you look like and just focus on the things you love. Today I’m going to ask you to focus on what you look like, but this will not be your typical “How to dress for your body type” post. I am not going to tell you to classify yourself as a fruit (pear, apple, etc). I never felt like I fit into any of those premade categories anyway (although I came across the lesser known “strawberry” body type and I think that may suit me the best.) (more…)
There’s one thing Hollywood Legends have in common (besides money, of course) and that’s a signature look. True Glamour Icons think of themselves as a brand, and they rarely stray from that. Can you imagine Elizabeth Taylor without diamonds? Or Gwen Stefani without her cool girl chic look? Of course not… that’s because these Starlets found their “look.” If you are going to be an Everyday Starlet you need to find a signature look that suits you. Finding your style is a long process, and it may (and probably will) evolve over time. (more…)
Jennie Garth recently released a memoir, “Deep Thoughts From a Hollywood Blonde.” As a former 90210 fan (the original, not the knock-off), I will definitely check out this book, but for all my blonde Starlets out there (and any who would like to live vicariously through us platinum ladies) I compiled a list of my favorite blonde books… (more…)
You are officially a Starlet, which means your life is a movie. And your movie would be pretty boring if all you did was sit around and watch TV. Starlets always seek knowledge. Think of it as researching for your role in your life movie. While Starlets tend to choose hobbies that are fitness oriented so she can get a workout in while also having fun. A Starlet likes to exercise her mind as well. Here are some hobbies/classes Starlets enjoy:
Art Classes– like life drawing (Starlets love the human form), painting (she loves colors)
Literature courses– Starlet’s love learning about great writers and might also write poetry…. She most definitely keeps a journal, and plans to write her memoirs one day. Here are some Starlet reading ideas.
Acting classes– whether it’s Stanislavski or a local Improv class, this is the perfect way to add a little theatrics to your life and get you out of your shell.
[caption id="attachment_1331" align="aligncenter" width="514"]Singing– think seductively draped over a piano not drunkenly shouting at karaoke.
[caption id="attachment_1332" align="aligncenter" width="378"]Languages– Starlets dream of traveling to romantic places and speaking romance languages like French and Italian. Note: watching foreign films with subtitles count as a language lesson. Bonus it it’s a Brigitte Bardot film.
Musical Instruments– Starlets love to make beautiful music whether it is with a guitar, piano, or ukulele
Photography– Starlets love to be in photographs, but she also loves taking pictures as well… this is my recreation of a famous Bardot photo
Cooking– Starlets love to eat, and they love to experiment in the kitchen. Sometimes her experiments don’t work out, but she loves playing with her food… like Brigitte Bardot’s Tabbouleh recipe
Shopping– Starlets love fashion, and especially love to shop vintage. Nowadays, many Starlets shop online. Dita Von Teese loves Ebay.com… I’m partial to Etsy. I found this great vintage find on Etsy.com.
Going out to shows– Whether it’s to the ballet, or the theater, Starlets love a live performance
[caption id="attachment_1334" align="aligncenter" width="420"]Gardening– flowers, vegetables, herbs… Starlets rarely get down and dirty but she will in a cute gardening outfit
Choose any hobbies that appeal to you, and have a fun weekend!

Every Starlet has a signature hair color, but they also have signature style colors that they are associated with.
White
Marilyn Monroe was known for her signature red lips, but she was famous for wearing white. She felt that a white wardrobe against her pale skin and platinum hair made her look angelic.
Yellow
Lana Turner was a big fan of yellow everything.
Pink
Pink is the most common association with femininity. Several Starlets have used this as their signature color, but in very different ways. Jayne Mansfield was all about sex appeal.
While Audrey Hepburn was more about classic sophistication.
[caption id="attachment_1613" align="aligncenter" width="400"]She even famously quoted about her signature color:
“I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles.”
And Audrey was in the pinkest movie of all time, Funny Face:
I hope this inspires you to pick your own signature color.
