Whole30 Week 2

I made it through week 2 of Whole30!  According to everyone I’ve talked to, the hard part should be over.  I will admit that it’s getting easier everyday.  To be completely honest, a big part of my motivation is all of you who read my updates and watch my vlogs.   Your support means the world to me!  Here’s how week 2 went…

Whole30 Week 2 - EverydayStarlet.com

The week in Facebook posts…

  • Whole30 Day 8: I angrily knocked over a display of Almond Butter because they hid the “Original” behind the “Maple” & the “Honey” and then walked away…. but I let an old lady go in front of me at the end of the aisle, so I figure my karma’s okay
  • Whole30 Day 9: It’s depressing that I’ve had to go to 3 different grocery stores this week to find enough whole, natural, healthy food to eat… if I’m going to finish Whole30 I may have to move
  • Whole30 Day 10: If at the end of this I don’t look like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley I’m gonna be pissed
  • Whole30 Day 11: Plantain chips are giving me life
  • Whole30 Day 12: I’ve eaten so many carrots I’m starting to turn a slight shade of Trump
  • Whole30 Day 13: Dear Pinterest, when I search for “SEO For Bloggers” it does not give you the right to show me “Death By Chocolate Peanut Butter Carmel Drizzle Cupcake Recipe”…. please fix the problem before the tears ruin my laptop. Kisses, Sarah
  • Whole30 Day 14: Today’s the day I’m supposed to get what the Whole30 peeps call “tiger blood”…WINNING! Hashtag Remember When We Used To Make Fun Of Charlie Sheen

Here’s my day by day vlog of Whole30 Week 2…

Here are some links to things that are helping me get through the month…

Best & Worst Concealers Review

I will admit I have amassed quite a large makeup collection since starting Everyday Starlet.  So when it comes time for special occasions, like my wedding, or even just everyday makeup, I sometimes forget which products are favorites and which ones I wish I’d just get rid of already.

So I decided to try something new and wear a different makeup product everyday, document how I like it (or don’t) throughout the day, and then keep my favorites.

I’m starting with concealers. So for 7 days I wore a different concealer under my eyes.  I judged how long they lasted, how good their coverage is, and how they settled into my fine lines and wrinkles (I’d rather pretend they’re not there, but alas, they are). Here’s what I learned…

Contour Palette Review: Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit vs Kat Von D Shade & Light

Sometimes the answer is right in front of your face… well, more like ON your face.  I’ve watched a lot of contour palette reviews on YouTube, usually of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit or the Kat Von D Shade & Light Contour Palette.  I found myself constantly asking how one compares to the other.  They the other day it occurred to me… I have both palettes, why don’t I do a side by side comparison!

As much as I’d like my finally summary to be an easy answer, the verdict is that it really comes down to personal preference.  I hope this video gave you some insight on which palette may work best for you.

Whole30 Week 1

I can’t believe I got through a whole week of Whole30!  The adjustment has be harder in some ways than I thought, and easier in other ways.

Whole30 Week 1: I Cheated but Didn't - EverydayStarlet.com

If you’ve been following me on social media (and you should be, of course) then you know I kinda cheated, but didn’t, on Whole30 with these mock pancakes.  The ingredients are all Whole30 approved, but making them into pancakes is not “in the spirit of Whole30″… but they’re keeping me sane!

Cheat but not on Whole30 with these 2 ingredient egg & banana pancakes - EverydayStarlet.com

I thought I would sum up each day in a Facebook post…

  • Today is Day 1 of my Whole30 quest! That means I’m giving up sugar, dairy, grains, alcohol, and a bunch of other stuff for 30 days. This will be a stressful enough challenge already, so if everyone on social media could refrain from talking about politics, religion, tragedy, or any other controversial subjects for the next 30 days I’d really appreciate it!
  • Whole 30 Day 2: I ventured out to eat and the waiter put cheese on my salad even though I ask for it without….. I would have made a scene but I’m too tired from lack of sugar
  • Whole30 Day 3: I think food commercials are mocking me
  • Whole30 Day 4: It’s snowing… but I don’t feel bad that I forgot to pick up bread and milk, because I can’t eat it anyway
  • Whole30 Day 5: I hate everything I’m allowed to eat
  • Whole30 Day 6: Since giving up sugar I’m sleeping better than ever….unfortunately it’s at noon
  • Whole30 Day 7: I’ve been watching Total Divas for fitness motivation. It’d be nice to look like them… but I don’t know if John Cena’s physique suits my face

For a recap of my first week of Whole30, here is my vlog…

YSL Touche Eclat Dupe

Since the idea behind Everyday Starlet is that glamour isn’t just for celebrities it’s for us everyday women, I’m always on the lookout for affordable ways to be glamorous.  So I couldn’t help but notice the similarities between my Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat and my Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circle Corrector in Brightener.  Could the Maybelline be a YSL Touche Eclat Dupe?  Lets find out…

Pinning is Glamorous!

YSL Touche Eclat Dupe..Drugstore Dupe? YSL Touche Eclat vs Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Brightener

To be honest, both of these products looked similar to me sitting on my makeup table.  Not the packaging obviously, the YSL takes the cake with that one!  I also was in a habit of using these products the same way.  I definitely needed to pair them both with another product to cover my dark circles, either another concealer or a neutralizer.  Both of these brighteners just didn’t have enough coverage on their own.  However to do both add a brightness under the eye that no amount of sleep can give you.

So after comparing the new YSL Neutralizer in Bisque to the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Neutralizer, I knew I had to compare their brightening products.  Here’s what I found….

I have been testing out several natural deodorants for a while now, trying to find the perfect one. Here’s what I’ve found so far…

Whole30 For April

Whole30

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

Even thought I eat relatively healthy… especially compared to the people I see in lines in front and behind me at supermarkets… I’m still not happy with my weight.  So I decided that instead of complaining, I would shake things up.  I decided to try Whole30 for the month of April.

The timing seemed perfect.  There aren’t any major holidays, and I’ve done my wedding cake tasting.

I’d be lying if I said that I didn’t want to drop some weight and look good in a wedding dress… but it truly is more about feeling good and challenging myself.

When I was in my 20s I actually entered a beauty pageant (try not to judge me).  I had just lost 50 lbs and I really just wanted to prove to myself that I could wear a bathing suit in public.  I didn’t make it past the first round, but it did give me one of my proudest memories…

When I went pageant dress shopping, I found my dream dress.  It was a complete “the one” moment.  The dress picked me!  After I purchased the dress, the saleswoman said she would pin me now and do my first fitting, and then I could come in closer to pageant day and get a final fitting.

I told her that I planned to lose another 15 lbs so I would rather wait to do a fitting.  She said it was better to do it now, and started pinning.  Not one to argue with someone with needles headed towards my flesh, I just went with it.

Several months and 15 lbs later I went back for my final fitting.  The dress was hanging off of me.

“You lost weight,” the saleswoman said confused.

“Yes, I told you I was planning to lose weight,” I said even more confused.

“I’ve been working with pageant contestants for 20 years, and every girl tells me she is going to lose weight… you are the first one to actually do it.  Most girls gain weight between fittings.”

That may have been the best I’ve ever felt about myself… or maybe not, I was delirious with hunger so I hope I didn’t hallucinate it.

I don’t necessarily want to chase the body I had in my 20s*, but I have been shaky with my willpower lately and I wanted to find that determined (albeit hungry) girl again.

*Note: That “body from my 20s” was something I had for a very short time, like age 23 and age 26.  I have always struggled.  You can hear my weight loss story here.

Here is a little more about my Whole30 plans for the month…

I’ll be keeping you updated throughout the process!

Have you done Whole30?  Do you have any favorite recipes or foods that helped get you through?

The 5 Stages of Closet Organization

Grant me the serenity to accept the wardrobe I have. Courage to change the clothes I can. And wallet to know the difference.

I think that’s how it goes, but it’s been a while since I was in Catholic school.

The 5 Stages of Closet Organization

It’s Spring time and that means Spring cleaning.  For most women (well, for me, and I’m assuming I’m not alone) cleaning out our closet is the most stressful of all Spring cleaning tasks. I know I am very much guilty of constantly having an overstuffed closet yet I never seem to have ANYTHING to wear.  I have been toying with the idea of trying the Capsule Wardrobe trend, but I’ve yet to take the leap.  But no matter what I decide, I know I need to do some serious organizing.  So thought I would share with you my process…

The 5 Stages of Closet Organization

Denial

(Panic voice) “I have NOTHING to wear!!!!!!!!”

Anger

(Angry voice) “I have NOTHING to wear!!!!!!!!”

“I hate everything!”

“How dare they make this clothing so I could see it in the store and buy it!”

“It’s the designer’s/manufacturer’s/brand’s/store’s/my mother’s fault!!!!”

Bargaining

(Looking to the heavens) “Lord, if I give all my crappy…err, I mean, I selflessly give all my wonderful clothes to the needy and less fashionable, then can I have a brand new fabulous wardrobe.  It’s only fair!”

Depression

(Crying)………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………(more crying)

Acceptance

Who am I kidding?  I usually replace “Acceptance” with “More Crying”.

If you’ve come to acceptance with your wardrobe, or if you’ve successfully mastered the Capsule Wardrobe and lived to tell, I’d love some tips!
