Editors Note: Finding Your Beauty

Hello Starlets, I wanted to have a quick check in with you.  My mind is constantly spinning with ideas for Everyday Starlet.  When I first started blogging I envisioned ES to be a lifestyle blog covering beauty, fashion, recipes, decor, and everything I could think of.  Then I was trying to focus on my love of fashion and beauty.  However, it seems like I just keep gravitating towards beauty.  That’s not to say I won’t be including some fashion content, as well as some food and fitness… that’s all stuff that makes you more beautiful after all.  I’ll just be more focused on makeup, skin care, hair, and all things beauty related….

Editors Note: Finding Your Beauty

There won’t be much change on the blog as of right now, things will probably look the same to you.  For me, it just allows me to be more focused… and not constantly feel guilty for not getting in any ootd photos.

Part of this decision to be a straight up beauty blogger comes from my own passion for the beauty industry, as well as my background as a Cosmetologist.  However, it also comes from you.  My makeup reviews, especially my concealer review, have become my most popular posts.

Since I want Everyday Starlet to be a combination of things I’m passionate about AND things you want to read and watch, I would really love if you would fill out a quick survey.  It’s just a few beauty related questions to help me get an idea of what you’d like to know more about or would like help with beauty-wise.

As always, if you have any questions or post/video suggestions I am always excited to hear what you’d like to see here on ES!

Milani Amore Mattallics Lip Creme Review & Swatches

Everything old is new again, and metallic lipstick is no exception.  I was obsessed with metallic lips from the time I discovered makeup until recently when I started beauty blogging and fell in love with the matte lip trend.  I’ve always felt that metallic shades give the lips more definition, make them look fuller, and can make almost any shade of lipstick more flattering on the skin…

Milani Amore Mattallics Lip Creme Review & Swatches

I’ve started seeing metallic lip colors come back on trend recently with the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit Metals Collection.  They only have three shades, they are always sold out, and they are over priced because you are really just paying for the brand name.  All that, and I’ve heard from reviewers that they’re very drying on the lips.  I haven’t actually tried them myself, but they just don’t seem worth the trouble.

So when I saw that Milani had add a metallic line to my beloved Amore Matte Lip Cremes, I just had to collect all 8 shades.  I swatched all of them so you can see each shade on, and I gave a vlog style review to see how the lip creme held up throughout the day.  Here is my full review…

Artis Oval 8 Foundation Brush Review & First Impression

Every once in a while a new product comes along promising to change to world as we know it.  For the beauty community, the latest hype is about the Artis Brushes.  They look more like a combination of a spoon and a hair brush.  They’re very expensive, and they are hard to get your hands on because the hype has made them backordered and out of stock everywhere.  However, I was finally able to get my hands on one…

Artis Oval 8 Foundation Brush Review & First Impression

Since these brushes are pricey, I did a lot of research before making my purchase.  I watched countless YouTube reviews, and the general consensus is that the Artis Oval 8 Foundation Brush was the best of the bunch.  I decided to try that one to see if I wanted to invest in any other sizes. I literally opened the box as soon as it arrived at my door and filmed this review.  So here is my first impression…

Lauren Conrad Celebrate Review & Giveaway

Imagine a younger, friendlier Martha Stewart, that you can relate to and would actually want to hang out with.  That’s Lauren Conrad.

In last week’s book review I gave my thoughts on Kristin Cavallari’s book, Balancing in Heels, and confessed that I had never watched an episode of The Hills.  So it’s a bit ironic that this week I’m reviewing a book by another Hills alum.

Lauren Conrad Celebrate Review

Celebrate is basically a party planning book, with tips for being a perfect hostess with the mostest.  She has general tips in the beginning, and then each chapter is dedicated to a different type of party that Lauren has planned.

I initially picked up Celebrate because I heard there was a chapter in it about wedding planning.  I know Lauren got married recently, and I had been getting wedding planning tips from her website, so I was excited to get more from her book.

I don’t know if the wedding chapter was as helpful as I was hoping.  I’m already deep into planning, but I do think her tips would be great for brides who are just staring the planning process.

For someone like me who does absolutely zero entertaining… that may change when I have my own home, but for now, nada…. I seem to have a huge collection of books about entertaining.  I’ve read Martha Stewart’s book, Pippa Middleton’s, and even Tori Spelling’s (which was actually better than I expected).  So I may be the most informed non-hostess ever.  Basically, I think I have read enough books to safely say that I really enjoyed Lauren’s book and have it mean something.

Lauren is, well, nice.  She seems sweet and genuine.  You can tell she is a perfectionist, a la Martha Stewart.  However, she is much more relatable.  She actually makes you feel like you could pull of a party like she can (whether or not we really can is still up for debate).

So would I recommend this book?

If you’re an entertaining novice and need some help, then yes.

If you’re an entertaining pro and need some inspiration, then sure.

If you’re a Martha Stewart fan girl, who can’t handle a laid back California cool party, then probably not.

Have you read Lauren Conrad Celebrate?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

When I set out to try on and review my entire blush collection, I had no idea what I was in for.  To be honest, blush is probably the most forgotten makeup product in my collection.  I frequently forget to apply it.. and, with my naturally rosy cheeks, I rarely ever miss it.  So you can imagine my surprise when I realized what an epic collection I actually have.

The Best & Worst Foundation Brushes | Review

For someone who never even owned a foundation brush until she started doing videos for YouTube, I seem to have amassed quite a collection. For most of my makeup wearing days I just used my fingers.  Makeup sponges seemed to let me down, and a brush for foundation never even entered my head.  Of course, then I discovered my beauty blender and that changed the game completely…

The Best & Worst Foundation Brushes | Review

Once I realized that there was a makeup sponge that could completely change my view of sponges, my mind opened to other possibilities.  Cut to today and I have collected more foundation brushes than I will ever need.  So I decided to try each of them, film it, and give a mini review of how I like them.

Many of them are from Real Techniques, because they are affordable and I just don’t have much luck with higher end makeup brushes.  That could be because, along with the price tag, my expectations are higher.  But, hey, if I can get something great at a great price, then I’m all for it!

So if you are interested in trying some foundation brushes, then here are the ones that worked for me, and the ones that didn’t…

Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer Review

Sometimes us beauty addicts buy makeup products that we just have to have, and then they get lost in our makeup collection and never get used.  That is the story of me and the Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer.  I thought this could be the answer to my struggle to get my lipstick to last.

Too Faced Lip Insurance Lip Primer Review

Cut to months later and I had discovered liquid lipsticks and a need for a lip primer didn’t seem necessary.  So while I was cleaning out my makeup collection to film my makeup reviews (like my face primer review) I came across my lonely Too Faced Lip Insurance and decided to give it a try.  I used my favorite lip liner, MAC Soar, and went with a traditional lipstick in a great quality to see if I could get the most accurate results.

Here’s what happened….

Balancing In Heels by Kristin Cavallari Review

I feel like I’ve been doing a lot of confessing lately on Everyday Starlet, and today’s post is no different.  I need to confess I have never watched and episode of Laguna Beach or the Hills.  I’m not going to pretend I never watch reality tv.. I’m only human, and I’ve kept up with the Kardashians more than I’d like to admit.  But I think I was at an awkward age when MTV’s reality shows we’re on the air.  I wasn’t too old for them per say, but I was already on to VH1 and E!’s reality offerings.  The extent of my exposure to Kristin, Lauren, Brody and the bunch was the clips they would show on E!’s The Soup (RIP one of my favorite shows) while Joel McHale made fun of them…..

Balancing In Heels by Kristin Cavallari Review

Fast forward to today, and Lauren Conrad’s blog is one of my favorites to check out everyday.  I’ll actually be reviewing her new book soon, so stay tuned for that.

However, I didn’t know much about Kristin Cavallari except that she was the “bitch character”, she had a short run on Dancing with the Stars, she married a football player, and she’s been popping out kids ever since.  So when her book Balancing In Heels came out I was fully prepared to pass on it.

Then I started seeing her book pop up on Instagram and people seemed to be enjoying it.  I was still skeptical until I found out that Kristin is a health nut and she had some great recipes.  So I broke down and bought it…. I am SO glad I did.

Much to my surprise I LOVED this book.  Kristin comes off relatable and likable, and she has such a great work/family balance that you can’t help but be inspired by her.

Her chapter on food is especially inspiring.  She is very careful about what she feeds herself and her family, yet I found her approach to it very practical.  I normally start reading books about health and my eyes glaze over… I’ve been dieting since I was 8 years old, so most of the information is not new to me… but with this book I couldn’t put it down.

So would I recommend this book?

If you love junk food, and get angry when people talk about leading a healthy lifestyle, then probably not.  Kristin may live in the Midwest now, but her health habits make her a true California girl at heart.

If you’ve been wanting to eat healthier and balance family and life but haven’t found the right source of motivation, then yes.  I found it motivating, hopefully you will too.

If you’re a health nut who’d like extra tips, or you’re starting a family and want tips for including your family in your healthy lifestyle, then absolutely.  Even if you’re not sure if you’ll like Kristin.  I didn’t think I would, but I’m so glad I gave this book a chance.

Have you read Balancing In Heels?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

If there are any books or films that you’d like me to review let me know? I’m always looking for suggestions.
