In the last post I asked you to forget what you look like and just focus on the things you love. Today I’m going to ask you to focus on what you look like, but this will not be your typical “How to dress for your body type” post. I am not going to tell you to classify yourself as a fruit (pear, apple, etc). I never felt like I fit into any of those premade categories anyway (although I came across the lesser known “strawberry” body type and I think that may suit me the best.) (more…)
There’s one thing Hollywood Legends have in common (besides money, of course) and that’s a signature look. True Glamour Icons think of themselves as a brand, and they rarely stray from that. Can you imagine Elizabeth Taylor without diamonds? Or Gwen Stefani without her cool girl chic look? Of course not… that’s because these Starlets found their “look.” If you are going to be an Everyday Starlet you need to find a signature look that suits you. Finding your style is a long process, and it may (and probably will) evolve over time. (more…)
Today is the first day of Spring… it hardly feels like it here in New England, but the hope of warmer weather is highly anticipated. A new season is a great time to set some goals for yourself. I got the idea from one of my favorite blogs, Cupcakes and Cashmere, which posts a list of goals for each season. I tried this last Summer and I was surprised at how many of my goals I reached. So I thought I would share with you some of my goals for this Spring…
Get outside more. I’d love to walk or jog outside daily, but in New England that’s not always possible. But this winter has been so bad I plan to get outside for some sun and fresh air as often as I can.
Stretch daily. I take dance classes weekly and June is our big recital… my dance teacher has added splits to my Jazz dance, so I’ll be focused of getting more flexible until then.
Try this Sesame Noodle recipe with Buckwheat or Soba noodles instead of pasta.
Make an Easter Brunch complete with Mimosas
Try this Grilled Vegetable Salad recipe
Make mint juleps for the Kentucky Derby on May 3rd… and of course treat myself to a new hat.
Have a spa day. I used to take Saturdays as a beauty day, but then my life got so hectic and I stopped. I’m longing to have a whole day dedicated to a home facial, mani/pedi, bubble bath, and some fashions mags… maybe a chick flick to round out the day.
Try orange lipstick. It’s out of my comfort zone, but I’d like to find a shade that works for me.
Visit a flea market. I’ve never been to one, but I’ve always wanted to try it out to see if I can find some cute vintage finds.
Learn more about photography. I don’t know if I will have time to take a class, but I’m going to start with tips from other blogs like Pretty Shiny Sparkly, Independent Fashion Bloggers, and To Vogue or Bust.
Post every weekday. I have been focused on moving Everyday Starlet from blogger to wordpress and redesigning the site, but I plan to get back to posting content regularly.
Make YouTube videos. I’m planning to add some beauty advice/technique videos to Everyday Starlet. I have some ideas in mind, but if you have any that you’d like to see just leave me a comment below.
What are your goals for Spring?
This weekend the latest Muppets movie is being released, so I wanted to give tribute to my absolute favorite Muppet and style icon: Miss Piggy. She may be livestock, but she is an Everyday Starlet if there ever was one. So here are 10 reasons that Miss Piggy is Glamour’s Most Wanted…
1. She never strays from her signature hair color
Miss Piggy may go short or long, bangs or no bangs, but she never strays from her signature blonde
Starlets are notorious for being animal lovers. As I’ve mentioned before, I suspect many Old Hollywood Starlet’s probably would have been vegetarians and/or vegans had it been more of an accessible diet back then. I also believe that many Old Hollywood Starlet’s would have been devoted to faux fur and vegan leather, had that been an option in Old Hollywood.

So any time Philanthropy meets Fashion, Starlets are on board. That is why I am happy to tell you about Angela & Roi, a handbag company that uses all vegan materials and donates to charities based on the color of the handbag you purchase.
Note: I am not getting any payment to endorse this product. The company reached out to me about posting a blog, and after checking out their website, I thought it would be something that my readers would enjoy.
Not every Starlet goes to the Academy Awards, so if your invitation got lost in the mail don’t worry… the truly cool people watch the Awards at home and then just go to the after-parties. I watched from home and I was a little disappointed that more of the dresses didn’t wow me (I’m looking at you Amy Adams), but these are my favorite glamour dresses of this year’s Oscars…

Valentine’s Day is coming and romance is in the air…. Starlets love a good romance if it is a romantic comedy…. And Starlets love jewelry…. So this is the perfect time to look at Starlet engagement rings. When it comes to engagement rings, Starlet’s go big or go nothing at all.
The Superbowl is coming this weekend, and there is no reason a Starlet can’t get in in the fun. How about some style from one of our favorite Old Hollywood movies, Cat on Hot Tin Roof. Elizabeth Taylor is a desperate housewife trying to seduce her ex-football star husband, Paul Newman. There is no question that they are two of the sexiest stars in all of history. And Ms. Taylor gives a mind-blowing performance… but it’s hard to get past her fabulous fashion…Image via http://www.glamamor.com[/caption%5D
It’s no secret that Starlets take a while to get ready, so sometimes they need a little motivation to keep them going. The perfect playlist is just the trick. It’s a trick used by Dita Von Teese, who says in her advice column on xojane.com…
“If you’re the kind of girl who loses track of time, try creating a playlist that runs a certain amount of time so that you can notice when you should be getting out the door. I like to put a ridiculous song at the end of my playlist so it’s my obvious cue to hurry up!”
Here are some song ideas (new and old) to get you excited about getting ready to go out…
Also, when getting ready for a Burlesque performance, Dita listens to some Beastie Boys. She tweeted…
Sad to hear of the passing of Adam from The Beastie Boys, they’re prominent on my “gettin’ ready for a show” playlist. Rest in peace. — Dita Von Teese (@DitaVonTeese) May 4, 2012
Now sometimes a Starlet needs to relax in a warm bath. For this she tends to listen to classical. Usually music from the opera Carmen, the ballet Swan Lake, or a little Bach or Beethoven…[caption id="attachment_920" align="aligncenter" width="459"] Image via classiccinemaimages.com
So relax in a tub and stay tuned for music for entertaining
