The 90s are back. A part of me is excited that the trends and styles of my coming-of-age decade is returning, but a part of me is afraid that society can’t handle a revamp of the “fanny pack.” I normally concentrate my efforts on Old Hollywood, (like the 30’s, 40s, 50s, maybe the 60s). However, since I had a front row seat for the 1990s, I feel like I can predict where fashion and beauty trends are headed. Here are a few 90s looks I’m looking forward to….
Mauve lips- lips in the 90s all had a brownish tint to them. I’m not a fan of brick red lips, but the mauve shades of the 90s are sexy paired with a smokey eye
Model-off-duty look- Supermodels became the Starlets of the 90s. The look is meant to feel like you’re running around NYC going to casting calls. It’s usually a casual look, as simple as jeans and a t-shirt, with an added touch of glamour, like a statement necklace or a bold lip. (more…)
Last month we looked at Fall/Winter fashion trends that work for Everyday Starlets. Today we’re looking at beauty trends. As I mentioned in the fashion post, Starlets don’t tend to be trendy, but they always follow fashion and what’s current. So here are a few beauty trends that modern day Old Hollywood Starlets can rock….
Over the years my weight has fluctuated more than Oprah’s. Once I discovered how to lose weight, the challenge became how to keep it off. I realized recently that my weight has been getting a little higher than I’m comfortable. I’m not necessarily overweight for my height, but since I have been at an unhealthy weight before, I am sensitive to it and I want to catch myself before it gets out of hand. I needed motivation to get started. I don’t have any major events on the calendar… so I decided to create one… Red Carpet Season… (more…)
Nail polish is such a great way to experiment with your look. It’s not permanent and can easily be changed with your mood. That’s why it’s important for Everyday Starlet’s to have a nail polish wardrobe made up of all your color essentials….
These are the colors that are timeless, go-with-everything colors
Most Everyday Starlets have limited budgets, so we can’t always buy the most expensive beauty products. Some products, however, are worth the money. So I created a cheat sheet of products to splurge and products to save…
Splurge (purchase at department stores, salons, or Sephora… invest in quality over quantity)(more…)
Sometimes life gives you too many options… and by “life” I mean nail polish. With unlimited options, it can be easy to fall back on your old standard. So anytime I need inspiration I turn to trusty ole Pinterest. I created a board to gather manicure ideas.
The weather is getting colder, which mean hands are getting dryer. My hands used to be naturally soft without much effort. The last few years my hands have been getting drier and drier. So I have created this spa manicure that anyone can do at home to keep my hands looking young and smooth….
This past Sunday I had the chance to take a Vintage Pin-Up Hair and Makeup Class with Cherry Dollface and the Crompton Collective in Worcester. I stumbled across her YouTube Channel by accident and loved her videos, so I was so excited to hear she was coming to my hometown. It never ceases to amaze me how much more there is to learn about anything, even things you think you know everything about. I have a Cosmetology license, and have studied hair and makeup in magazines and books since I hit puberty, but even I walked away from Sunday’s class feeling inspired and learning a few new tricks.
Cherry did a full pin-up makeup look on a model, and then two vintage hairstyles on two models. She talked and answered questions throughout. She is surprisingly approachable… then again I’m always surprised when anyone seems approachable. The class was small, which I though worked really well because everyone got plenty of chances to ask questions. Cherry used a variety of products, but in particular she promoted Bomber Betty cosmetics…. And she also gave a shout out to Sugar Pill products because she likes the products and the owner, stating “I like to support people to aren’t assholes.”
Cherry also used Big Sexy Hair products, many of which I have actually been dying to try, and she told us she uses Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo and styling treatment.
Here are a few things I took away from the class… (more…)
