Kylie Jenner Snapchat Makeup Routine | Using All Drugstore Dupes

In case you haven’t heard, a new member of the Kardashian Klan is breaking the internet.  First came the Kylie Jenner Snapchat Makeup Routine, then came the Kylie Jenner Eye Shadow palette.  I will admit that I tried to order the KYShadow The Bronze Palette, and was literally thisclose to ordering it when it suddenly sold out… 1 min after it launched.  So for those of you out there that didn’t get their hands on the palette, and those of you who want that Kylie look on a budget, I decided to recreate the Kylie Jenner Snapchat Makeup Routine using all drugstore dupes of her makeup and her makeup brushes and tools….

Kylie Jenner Snapchat Makeup Routine | Using All Drugstore Dupes

The ironic part about making this video is that I already had many of the high end products that Kylie uses, so I had to go out and buy many of the dupes.  So my affordable makeup routine cost me more than I thought.  Here are the products I used and what they are possible dupes for, as well as a mini review of each….

Revlon Photo Ready Airbrush Effect Makeup

….dupe for Make Up For Ever HD Foundation.  I reviewed the MUFE in my Medium Coverage Foundations Review and I’m not a huge fan of it, but I’ll have to test it with the Revlon side by side to see if it’s an exact dupe.

Physicians Formula #InstaReady BB Cream

…possible dupe for Urban Decay Naked Skin One & Done. I don’t have the UD so I don’t know if they are dupes, but I wanted to try the InstaReady anyway.

Real Techniques Miracle Completion Sponge

…dupe for Beauty Blender. Not exact dupes but I tested them side by side and they are close.  I’ve tested other sponges as well, but nothing really lives up to the beauty blender.

Maybelline Define-A-Brow

…dupe for Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz. I tested these in my recent brow review, and I really love them both.

NYX Dark Circle Concealer

…used in place of Becca Concealer. I don’t have the Becca concealer, so I just grabbed the NYX because it was the only pot concealer I had.

RCMA No Color Powder

…in place of Laura Mercier Translucent Powder. I don’t have this LM powder, but I have others and NOTHING lives up to my RCMA powder.. especially for under eyes.

NYX Shadow in Dance the Tides & Betrayal

…in place of the Kylie Eye Shadow palette. Finding great matte drugstore shadows in these shades was difficult.  I don’t know if they’re my favorite, but they’re more affordable and easier to get your hands on than the KY Shadow Palette.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer

…possible dupe for Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer. Many people claim these are dupes or that the Maybelline is even better.  Personally, I prefer the Nars, but the Maybelline isn’t bad.  I reviewed all of my concealers recently and it’s my most popular post to date.

Physicians Formula #InstaReady BB Powder

…in place of Chanel Double Perfection Lumière Powder Makeup.  I have’t tried the Chanel, so I can’t compare, but I know this PF powder is much more affordable.  I’ll have to try it more to give a full review.

Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer

…in place of Benefit Hoola Bronzer.  These are not dupes, but the Butter Bronzer is my favorite bronzer ever, so I had to use it.

Milani Clear Brow Gel

…dupe for Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel. These aren’t exactly the same, but very close.

Wet N Wild Blush in Apri-Cot in the Middle

…in place of Sephora Blush in Passionate.  I don’t have the Sephora shade, but the WNW is very pretty and super affordable.

L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara

…possible dupe for Lancome High Definition Mascara. I don’t have the Lancome, but Pinterest claims that these are dupes.  The L’Oreal is good, but not my favorite mascara.  I like the Fiber Lash version better.

Maybelline Color Tattoo Crayon in Creamy Chocolate

…in place of Sephora Shadow Liner. The color tattoo is not matte like the Sephora is supposed to be, but I love these crayons and I loved the sheen it gave my waterline.  Note: using it in my waterline did irritate my eyes a little, and the creamy formula continued to feel wet all day… but I’ll keep testing it as a shadow.

NYX Lip Pencil in Nude Pink

…possible dupe for Kylie Lip Liner in Candy K. I don’t have any Kylie Lip Kits, but the NYX is supposed to be a dupe.  The shade is a little pale for my skin tone, but it’s a good pencil.

Wet N Wild Highlighter Boozy Brunch

…possible dupe for Becca Champagne Pop.  Okay, try to follow this: I saw online that WNW highlighter in Hollywood Boulevard was a dupe for Champagne Pop.  I also heard that HB is now called Boozy Brunch but is still the same product.  I swatched BB with Champagne pop and it’s close but not exact… but I think I like it a little better on my skin tone.  I will also note that the WNW lasted all day…very impressive for a drugstore highlighter.

NYX Butter Gloss in Angel Food Cake

…possible dupe for Kylie Lip Kit Gloss in Koko K.  I found dupes listed for all of Kylie’s other glosses, but I really had to dig to find this one.  I don’t have Koko K gloss to compare, but the NYX was nice… although I’m not a gloss girl.

All brushes are Real Techniques. The face brushes are all ones I already use and love.  The shadow brushes are great, but I missed my MAC shadow brushes for this look.

Full Face First Impressions | Trestique, Lord & Berry, By Terry Review

I was contacted by a new beauty website, B-Glowing.  They sell a lot of great brands, and many that are hard to find in the US.  They asked me if I wanted to try some of their makeup products to review for my Starlets.  Of course, I jumped at the chance….

They were lovely enough to send me some makeup from Trestique, Lord & Berry, and By Terry.  Since I had never tried any of these brands, I jumped in with both hands, and did an unboxing, as well as a (mostly) full face first impression of the products….

The French Beauty Solution Review

I have a bit of a love affair with France.  I think it’s my inner Brigitte Bardot.  I devoured (pun intended) French Women Don’t Get Fat, and ever since then I’m all about learning how to live life with more Joie De Vivre.  That’s why I picked up The French Beauty Solution: Time-Tested Secrets to Look and Feel Beautiful Inside and Out by Mathilde Thomas….

Pinning is Glamorous!

The French Beauty Solution Review

The French Beauty Solution Review

The French Beauty Solution was written by the creator of Caudalie, a skin care brand you may have tried, but I’m sure have seen in Sephora.  To be honest, I was a little afraid that this book would just be a big advertisement for the skin care line.  I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t.

Yes, Mathilde does mention her brand, and some of her favorite products in her line (and who could blame her, I never hate on self promotion… BTW check out my Instagram, wink wink), but it’s never overdone.   And while I truly wasn’t looking for any new skin care products right now since I’m trying not to mess with my skin before my wedding, I definitely have some Caudalie on my wish list for after my big day.

While the main focus of this book is on skin care, there is also a lot about health and lifestyle.  I love the way Mathilde (don’t ask me how to pronounce her name, I’m hopelessly American) emphasizes how diet, stress, and other lifestyle factors can affect our beauty.  I also found the chapter on French diet to be a summarized version of French Women Don’t Get Fat… so if you’re looking for the cliff notes on that book this is it.

There is a lot of comparison throughout the book between the French way and the American way.  I really like how Mathilde seems to have a balance, and includes the things she admires about American culture instead of just having the perspective that French is better (in some ways they are, and others maybe not so much).

There is not much makeup in this book, because frankly the French don’t wear as much.  But as a skin care and general health book, this has everything.

So would I recommend this book?

If you enjoyed French Women Don’t Get Fat and/or you want to know more about the beauty regime and lifestyle of chic French women, then YES!

If you’re a “who needs skin care, I’ll just cover everything with makeup” kinda person, it may not be for you, but I’d encourage you to check it out anyway.

Have you read The French Beauty Solution?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

If there are any makeup/beauty related books or films that you’d like me to review let me know? I’m always looking for suggestions.

How To Have A Classy Bachelorette Party

Some people only plan a wedding for the night of booze and strippers that comes along with the Bachelorette party (but hopefully not too many people.)  I’ve never been into the idea.  Maybe it’s my years as a stand-up comedian where I’ve seen too many shows destroyed by drunken bachelorettes with plastic tiaras and penis cups who thought they where funnier than the comics (they were usually just sad and annoying).  But I wanted no part of any of that.  I did like the idea of having my wedding party all get together for a night out to unwind and get to know each other before the wedding.  So when my Man of Honor, my BFF Jeff, wanted to do a Pre-Marital Sendoff I was excited about the idea.

So if you’re like me and you aren’t into a traditional bachelorette party, here are some tips for how to have a classy bachelorette party….

How To Have A Classy Bachelorette Party

How To Have A Classy Bachelorette Party

Get on the same page.  Talk to your wedding party about what you want so they don’t mistakenly think you want a lap dance filled night.  Some may be disappointed, but you’re the bride and hopefully you only have people in your wedding party who truly care about you and your feelings.

Have a co-ed night.  My wedding party is all men, so my party was a boys night out, but either way combining bachelor/bachelorette parties is becoming much more common.  Luckily my fiance feels the same way about bachelor parties as I feel about bachelorettes, so he was on board with combining them.  It made it a fun night for the whole party to get together and have people meet and get to know each other who may not be as familiar.

Think outside the bar.  Yes, going to a bar can be a great night out, but picking a venue that has some kind of entertainment or something to do can keep your party from just pounding drinks.  For my party, my MOH planned a dinner and reserved a table at a dueling piano bar.

This is a line from my comedy act that my friends put up on the board at the piano bar

I vlogged my non bachelor/bachelorette party, so if you’d like to see the fun times that my wedding party got up to you can check it out….

Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in1 Foundation Review & First Impression

Many makeup product launches get a lot of hype.  It can be hard to weed through all the noise to find out if a product is really great.  So when I heard good things about the Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in1 Foundation I had to check it out for myself.

Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in1 Foundation Review & First Impression

I’m very hard on foundations.  My standards are very high. I fully expect the same from my drugstore foundations as I do from high end.  I think that’s because foundation is the one makeup product that I think it’s okay to go overboard and spend a lot of money.  It’s the think that sits on your whole face the longest, and it can truly make or break your whole look.  So when I hear that a drugstore foundation is just as good as high end I have to check it it.

So here’s my first impression…

Testing Beauty Blender Dupes | Makeup Sponges Review

It seems like the eternal struggle of the Beauty Blogger: to find Beauty Blender dupes.  It is the notorious makeup sponge to end all makeup sponges, but it is pricey.  So the makeup world is waiting with bated breath for an affordable option…..

So when the people from Lux Beauty contacted me about testing out their Sponge Lux Advanced Makeup Blending* sponges, I jumped at the chance.  It’s a set of 5 sponges in all kinds of fun shapes and colors.  I was excited to see how they compared to my original Beauty Blender, Beauty Blender Micro Mini, and my Real Techniques sponge. Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin Review

A few weeks ago I did a review of a life changing book, this time I’m reviewing the sequel.  Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin is the second book that the legendary makeup artist came out with.  When it was released in 1999, I was so excited, I partied like it was… well, you know….

Pinning is Glamorous!

Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin Review

Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin

As I said in my last reviewThe Art of Makeup was like the makeup appetizer, but Making Faces is the main course.  It delves into all areas of makeup is such great detail, and with a devotion unlike any other.

There are also makeovers in this book ranging from simple to over the top!  Ever wonder if Lisa Marie Presley could look like Marilyn Monroe?  This book answers that question.

I poured over the pages of this book more than any other.  I carried it everywhere with me, hoping that the inspiration would seep into my veins.

If a peek at Courtney Love as an (Everyday) Starlet doesn’t convince you to check out this book, nothing will.

Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin Review Courtney Love

So would I recommend this book?

There’s a short answer and a long answer.  The long answer is…  HELL YES!

Have you read Making Faces by Kevyn Aucoin?  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

The Best Brow Makeup For Blondes

I’m declaring 2016 the year of the brows.  It seems that eye brows have been getting a lot of attention this year.  There are heated debates about proper brow etiquette… should you leave them natural or make them up with high drama.  Any way you like to wear them, us fair haired and fair skinned Starlets have the hardest time finding brow makeup that works for us (and doesn’t leave orange caterpillars over our eyes).  So I’m testing out the best brow makeup for blondes…

Pinning is Glamorous!

The Best Brow Makeup For Blondes Review

I went through my brow collection and tried on all of my brow products for you to give a full review.  Most of them were wins because I did a clean out of my brow makeup not too long ago.  Unfortunately I mostly had to get rid of drugstore brow products because they tend to look way too orange/yellow on my skin tone.  However, I think I’ve found some great brow products for us flaxen haired ladies in a range of prices from drugstore to high end.

I tried some brow pencils…. getting confused by the Hourglass Brow Sculpting Pencil…. and possibly finding a dupe for my beloved Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in a Maybelline brow pencil

I tested brow gels from Tarte, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and Milani.  And I’m comparing Brow Pomades from drugstore brands like Maybelline and Milani, to high end brands like Tarte and Anastasia Beverly Hills.

Here’s what I discovered…

How To Prevent Razor Bumps On Your Body

We’re gettin’ a little personal today.  We’re talkin’ ’bout razor bumps people.  No one likes them, and no one wants to talk about them.  But Summer’s here and this IS skin baring season, so I wanted to give you my top tips for how to prevent razor bumps….

Pinning is Glamorous!

How To Prevent Razor Bumps On Your Body

How To Prevent Razor Bumps

Some people just seem to be more susceptible to getting razor bumps than others.  The most common place us ladies get them is the bikini area.  There seems to be a debate over whether shaving or waxing is the best option to minimize bumps.  I go back and forth… although now I’m testing the Tria Hair Removal Laser so I’ll keep you posted

But whatever your hair removal method, here are my razor bump busting tips…

In the shower…

Make sure you’re exfoliating. I exfoliate every shower.  I do a full body scrub weekly, but every shower, on the areas that I tend to get razor bumps, I use the Soap & Glory Pulp Friction. It’s been hard to find lately but it’s totally changed the ingrown hair game for me.

I also use a Tea Tree Body wash.  Tea Tree is a natural acne fighter, so it will help keep bumps at bay.  Note: I accidentally bought The Body Shop Face Wash instead of the body wash, so I used it anyway in the shower… my skin did not like it.  I definitely recommend only using the body wash on the body.

After the shower (or anytime)…

Every night, or more often if needed, I use Tend Skin.  I’ve tried tons of these ingrown-hair-preventing-liquids, and I always go back to Tend Skin.  I used to hate that I had to use it with a cotton pad, but now it comes in a roll on and it such a time saver (actually I doesn’t save that much time, but in my mind it does).  Remember, Tend Skin is mostly alcohol, so be sure to use a moisturizing lotion on the area as well.  My favorite is The Body Shop Shea Body Butter.

This combo has been life changing for me. I’ve tried a lot of products, and these are the ones I recommend.
