Tips for Perfect EyeBrows… especially for Blondes

Tips for Perfect EyeBrows... especially for Blondes - EverydayStarlet.com @SarahBlodgett

I’ve had a love/hate relationship with eyebrows.  I’ve tried growing them out and rocking the big, bushy brow trend and I just always feel like I’m all eyebrows.  I’ve tried plucking them within an inch of their life, a la Old Hollywood movie stars, and my face felt bald.  I was constantly in a state of brow confusion.  So I just avoided them altogether.

Fast forward to recently when I started YouTube and saw all the amazing brows these beauty gurus have.  I knew I had to step up my brow game.  I stared trying all the eyebrow makeup I could find.

So many brow products just didn’t work for me.  I think any natural brunettes with platinum blonde hair can probably relate.  Especially since I’ve been going for a silver hair color, most brow products either look too dark or too gold on me.  Then I finally found the brow combo that was just right.

I wanted to share with you how I do my everyday brows.  The tricks and techniques will work for anyone, but the products I use are especially for those of us with platinum blonde, silver, or gray hair.

Mixing Prints: Leopard & Plaid

Mixing Prints: Leopard & Plaid - EverydayStarlet.com @SarahBlodgett

If you had told me a few years ago that I would be pairing leopard and plaid together in the same outfit I would have reported you to the fashion police.  However, now that leopard has become a true neutral (and I think plaid has become one as well), I don’t even think twice about pairing them together.  In fact, in my casual, running errands, look, combing the two has become almost a staple.

I actually pair these Toms Leopard loafers with almost anything.  I don’t know about you, but I have such a difficult time finding flats that are comfortable.  They always give me blisters and they just never seem to fit right.  But I have had the best luck with Toms! There is just something about leopard print… it adds Starlet glamour to even the most casual outfit!

Valentino Inspired Thanksgiving Tablescape

Valentino Inspired Thanksgiving Tablescape - EverydayStarlet.com @SarahBlodgett

Thanksgiving seems like an overlooked holiday these days.  Stores put out Halloween candy and decorations in August, and the second Nov 1st arrives it’s on to Christmas stuff.  It’s such a shame because Thanksgiving is a holiday that can be enjoyed by all…. who doesn’t like a day dedicated to overeating…um…I mean giving thanks..wink, wink.

So the day after Halloween, I jumped head first into decorating for Thanksgiving.

After I designed my Kate Spade Halloween Table, I decided to do a different fashion designer themed table for each Holiday.  When I saw these studded pumpkins at Jo-Ann Fabric I just knew that Thanksgiving would be inspired by Valentino.

The studs on the pumpkins remind me of the famous Valentino Rockstud Pump.  I had to include some bows in honor of the infamous Valentino Couture Bow Pump, and some red (although this is burgundy to avoid it looking too Christmasy) in honor of Valentino’s legendary red carpet dresses.  A Pinterest search of Valentino’s fashion lead me to dresses with a sheer embroidery detail (this one especially inspired me).  I tried to emulate that on a budget with some inexpensive tulle fabric from Jo-Ann Fabric as a runner, and some leaves I clipped off a glitter poinsettia from Michaels.

The only thing that cost a little more were these pedestals from Jo-Ann Fabric, but they are so worth it, and I’m sure I’ll be using them again.

All in all, a budget Thanksgiving table that’s a fitting tribute to a legendary high end designer!

When I discovered MAC’s eyeshadow in Cranberry I just knew I needed it.  I’ve been not-so-patiently waiting to use it in a tutorial for the Holiday season!  This look is decidedly an evening look with the smokey eyes and pale lip.  However, it’s perfect for Thanksgiving, Christmas, or and Holiday party or occasion.  So check out my video to see how I did this Cranberry Holiday Makeup Look…

How to: Fall Fashion Colors for Cool Skin Tones

How to: Fall Fashion Colors for Cool Skin Tones - EverydayStarlet.com @SarahBlodgett

The colors of Fall in nature can be some of the most beautiful of the entire year (especially here in New England).  The shades of orange, brown, and red can just envelop you in warmth.  However, if you have a cool skin tone like mine, fall fashion colors can wash you out quicker than it takes a leaf to fall of the tree.  So if you have cool toned skin but still want to embrace Fall colors, then I have a few tips for you..

Start with Neutrals

Neutral colors that flatter all skin tones can work wonders as a base for your less flattering (but still beloved) colors.  Black works on just about everyone.  You can also try a gray, or a crisp white (I’d avoid any white that is too yellow, it can make you look sickly).

Location, Location, Location

If you love a color that may not be the most flattering on your skin, wear it on your lower half.  The farther away from your face, the less likely it is to wash you out.  That way, you can wear a flattering color or neutral on top to brighten up your face.

Accessorize

Along the same lines as above, wear a fall color as an accessory so it’s less overwhelming to your coloring.

Go for Sparkle and/or Texture

A drab yellow color may not look gorgeous on you, but a metallic gold can make anyone shine.  Orange may not make you feel fabulous, but just try to feel less than stunning in a bronze (hint: bronze shades can really bring out blue eyes).  The same goes for a texture like fur or another luxe fabric.  They can really make any color feel less drab.

Find the Fall Versions of Cool Colors

Every color has warm and cool shades (I’ll spare you the lengthy color theory class that I sat through many times in Cosmetology school).  For example, blue is usually a cool tone, but navy is slightly warmer.  So if you’re skin is cool tones, the Fall colors that are most likely to be flattering are navys, hunter greens, and burgundys.  You may have to try a few different shades of each to find your best ones, but they will be less intimidating than oranges and yellows.

Go with Your Gut

Color theory is a whole post in itself, but at the end of the day, if you put on a color that makes your face light up… then it’s your color… don’t settle for anything less.

Sephora Haul & Some Other Splurges

Anyone who knows me… or even anyone who’s taken a quick peek at Everyday Starlet.. knows that I’m a bit of a shopaholic.  So when Brooke from InAWorldofBees.com offered to send me her Sephora Friends & Family discount I’m pretty sure I actually squealed with happiness!  Only select people got the discount and I was so excited to receive it… my credit card is hurting though because I did some damage!  I planned my shopping cart with more focus than anything in my life… and I even took a preliminary trip to Sephora for fragrance testing… here’s a look at what I got… and a few other splurges, like a Charlotte Tilbury purchase from Nordstroms, and more!

How to Wear a Hat... with confidence - EverydayStarlet.com @sarahblodgett

I’ve done a lot of shopping this month (shocker, I know, wink, wink).  However, I haven’t had a chance to really test out my new finds.  So my October Favorites are small, but I have a few things I’ve really been loving that I had to share with you…

Don’t forget to hit the Subscribe button so we can be YouTube friends!

Here’s what I’ve been loving…

Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred– I’ve tried a lot of workouts in my day, but I have never seen results as quickly as I have with the first week of this workout… and that’s just level one!

October 2015 Favorites: Fitness, Beauty, Fashion, Etc

My Home Goods mug and my homemade pumpkin lattes, and caramel apple lattes with tea from Celestial Seasonings… they taste so sinful, but with just tea, almond milk, honey, and a frother, they’re definitely waistline friendly!

October 2015 Favorites: Fitness, Beauty, Fashion, Etc

For beauty products, I’ve been obsessed with my Shiseido Facial Cotton (which I bought in my Cambridge Sephora Haul), and my new dark circle concealer combo: Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in Brightener combined with Neutralizer

October 2015 Favorites: Fitness, Beauty, Fashion, Etc

My Primark Hat… and be sure to check out my post all about How to Wear a Hat..with Confidence

Bat Wing Eye Liner & DIY Sexy Bat Halloween Costume

Bat Wing Eye Liner & DIY Sexy Bat Halloween Costume

My feelings about Halloween are conflicted.  On one hand, I HATE scary stuff, pranks, and anything gross.  On the other hand, I love dressing up, and anything themed.  I don’t really celebrate Halloween.. and I turn the lights off for Trick O’ Treaters (there aren’t many little kids in my neighborhood, and most of them go to other neighborhoods on less busy streets… so all we get are older kids who don’t even wear costumes… which is really just going door-to-door begging for food…which is awkward).  However, I still like to have a costume at the ready, just in case I get invited to a fabulous party (although I’d really rather stay in my pjs and watch The Addams Family anyway).  Last year I shopped my closet for a Barbra Streisand tribute.  This year I went simple, with a sexy dress and dramatic eye liner to make a sexy bat look.  So this year…I’m Batman…

Sweater Weather in New England

Sweater Weather Collage

The weather is getting colder, and as much as I hate humidity, after the miserable Winter we had in New England last year I’m not exactly excited about the cold this year.  That said, this really is a special time of year in the Northeast.

Fall is really the best time to live in New England… actually, it may be the only time to live in New England.  Most of us suffer though snowstorms and humidity just for that one time of year when the leaves change (we even drive hours to see them.. even when we have plenty in our own backyards).  Is it any wonder we’re known for our road rage?

Fall may even be the only time of year that New Englanders crack a smile… but only when the Pats are winning (no pressure Tom Brady).

Fashion wise, I’m relishing in this short time of year when I can wear boots and not have them ruined by ice and snow… although I really wish they’d do something about all the cobblestone around here.  It’s almost impossible to look sober walking on cobblestone in heels (ironically, after attempting said walk, I typically need a drink).

Yes, there is no better time to live here…. but is anyone going to a warm climate next month and bringing a suitcase I can stow away in?
