I’ve done a lot of shopping this month (shocker, I know, wink, wink).  However, I haven’t had a chance to really test out my new finds.  So my October Favorites are small, but I have a few things I’ve really been loving that I had to share with you…

Don’t forget to hit the Subscribe button so we can be YouTube friends!

Here’s what I’ve been loving…

Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred– I’ve tried a lot of workouts in my day, but I have never seen results as quickly as I have with the first week of this workout… and that’s just level one!

October 2015 Favorites: Fitness, Beauty, Fashion, Etc

My Home Goods mug and my homemade pumpkin lattes, and caramel apple lattes with tea from Celestial Seasonings… they taste so sinful, but with just tea, almond milk, honey, and a frother, they’re definitely waistline friendly!

October 2015 Favorites: Fitness, Beauty, Fashion, Etc

For beauty products, I’ve been obsessed with my Shiseido Facial Cotton (which I bought in my Cambridge Sephora Haul), and my new dark circle concealer combo: Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer in Brightener combined with Neutralizer

My Primark Hat… and be sure to check out my post all about How to Wear a Hat..with Confidence

Bat Wing Eye Liner & DIY Sexy Bat Halloween Costume

Bat Wing Eye Liner & DIY Sexy Bat Halloween Costume

My feelings about Halloween are conflicted.  On one hand, I HATE scary stuff, pranks, and anything gross.  On the other hand, I love dressing up, and anything themed.  I don’t really celebrate Halloween.. and I turn the lights off for Trick O’ Treaters (there aren’t many little kids in my neighborhood, and most of them go to other neighborhoods on less busy streets… so all we get are older kids who don’t even wear costumes… which is really just going door-to-door begging for food…which is awkward).  However, I still like to have a costume at the ready, just in case I get invited to a fabulous party (although I’d really rather stay in my pjs and watch The Addams Family anyway).  Last year I shopped my closet for a Barbra Streisand tribute.  This year I went simple, with a sexy dress and dramatic eye liner to make a sexy bat look.  So this year…I’m Batman…

Sweater Weather in New England

Sweater Weather Collage

The weather is getting colder, and as much as I hate humidity, after the miserable Winter we had in New England last year I’m not exactly excited about the cold this year.  That said, this really is a special time of year in the Northeast.

Fall is really the best time to live in New England… actually, it may be the only time to live in New England.  Most of us suffer though snowstorms and humidity just for that one time of year when the leaves change (we even drive hours to see them.. even when we have plenty in our own backyards).  Is it any wonder we’re known for our road rage?

Fall may even be the only time of year that New Englanders crack a smile… but only when the Pats are winning (no pressure Tom Brady).

Fashion wise, I’m relishing in this short time of year when I can wear boots and not have them ruined by ice and snow… although I really wish they’d do something about all the cobblestone around here.  It’s almost impossible to look sober walking on cobblestone in heels (ironically, after attempting said walk, I typically need a drink).

Yes, there is no better time to live here…. but is anyone going to a warm climate next month and bringing a suitcase I can stow away in?

Get Ready With Me for a Celebrity Fashion Show

Get Ready With Me for a Celebrity Fashion Show I lucky enough to be asked to be in a Celebrity Fashion show to support the Boys & Girls Club Worcester along with my fashionable friend, crooner Dale LePage.  The evening was so exciting, getting break out my inner Naomi Campbell (but without throwing my phone, of course) and strut my stuff down the runway. The night went so fast, and everyone seemed to have such a great time!  I thought you might enjoy coming along for my fitting and getting ready with me for the big night as I do my hair, makeup, and pick out the perfect outfit for a night full of fashion for a great cause ….

You can hear more of Dale’s music in my Glowing Skin Makeup Tutorial!… and if you’re in the Central Massachusetts area you can check out the Adore Boutique!  My fringe dress and boots can be seen here. This is the second time I’ve worn it, and every time I do the compliments keep coming!  These boots are so stylish, comfortable, and affordable (my absolute favorite combination)!

How to Wear a Hat… with Confidence

How to Wear a Hat... with confidence - EverydayStarlet.com @sarahblodgett

If my relationship with hats was a Facebook status it would be “It’s Complicated”.  In my preteen years I had a bit of a love affair with hats (I blame Blossom, one of my favorite tv shows at the time starring Amy Farrah Fowler of The Big Bang Theory).  Basically any black felt hat with a faux flower on it I wanted to be on my head.

For some reason, I fell out of love with hats in high school and college.  However, in the early 2000s, when I was in my clubbing days, I had a fuzzy pink Kangol hat that was da bomb (and that saying was cool then as well).  I had a few trucker hats at that time as well, but when they went out of style I broke up with hats again.

I had just accepted that I would live a hat free life… until recently.  I’ve been seeing hats show up in the fashion world more often lately, but I just wasn’t really to take the plunge.  But on a recent trip to the new Primark in Boston I found a few inexpensive ones that caught my eye (the one I’m wearing, and this one from my Summer to Fall transition outfit).  I think hats and I may be back together.

If you’re thinking about getting together with hats, but you’re afraid to take the plunge, here are some tips…

How to Wear a Hat... with confidence - EverydayStarlet.com @sarahblodgett

Size does matter.  Not all hats are created equally, so try on a lot of them in different shapes and sizes to find the ones that go with your proportions.

It’s all in the timing.  Know when to wear a hat and when not to.  Traditionally women can wear hats indoors and outdoors… men have stricter etiquette rules about wearing hats, although many ignore them (my normally very laid back father can go on rants about how inappropriate it is for men to wear a hat indoors).  However, even for women, sometimes a hat is just not welcome.

Hats don’t tend to lend themselves to formal occasions (although fashion rules are made to be broken).  In addition, while it’s not a rule, I’d recommend anytime your doing any public speaking, or you need people to see your face clearly, skip the hat.

Be complimentary.  Your hat should be the cherry on top of your outfit sundae.  You can go for a contrasting look, like a menswear hat with a feminine dress, but make sure your hat works with the rest of your outfit and doesn’t compete with it. Treat a hat like any other accessory… because it is.

Don’t try to hide.  It’s a misconception that hats are for hiding (bad hair days, a pimple, etc).  Hats demand attention.  I saw a quote once that said something like, “you’ll always get more attention when you wear a hat.”  (I tried to find the exact quote, but it was a Google fail.)  I have noticed that I attract a lot of attention when I wear a hat, which made me self conscious at first.  However, now I figure why not have my Starlet moment… please, no pictures (big smile for the camera).

Kate Spade Halloween Tablescape & Fall Weekend Vlog

Kate Spade inspired Halloween Tablescape - EverydayStarlet.com @SarahBlodgett

Since I started Everyday Starlet, I’ve kinda taken over decorating my Mom’s dining room table.  We never eat at this table, but it really is the centerpiece of the house, so we like to have it styled for the current season or holiday.  I was trying to come up with a new idea for Halloween.  My Mom spotted white pumpkins with gold dots at Jo Anne Fabric one day.  That started my brain whirling into a Kate Spade frenzy.  Alas, I didn’t go back and pick up the pumpkins in time and they were sold out everywhere.  I still decided to keep going forward with the Kate Spade theme.  Ms. Spade is known for fun patterns and general whimsy, and Halloween should be whimsical… so it just made sense.  After several trips to Jo Anne Fabric and Michaels, I created my table.  I made the sign, using a spin on Kate Spade’s famous quote “Eat Cake For Breakfast”… because candy just felt right for Halloween.

I’m already planning my Thanksgiving table, and I’m thinking about starting a series of doing a table inspired by a different fashion designer for each holiday.  I’d love to hear which designers are your favorites and which ones you would like to see as an inspiration for a holiday table!

All About Aztec

All About Aztec

I love prints.. leopard, polka dots, stripes… but I never really got into the Aztec print trend.  I think it’s usually the colors.  Most of the Aztec prints I’ve found have very muted navys, oranges, and mustards in them… not my ideal shades.  So when I went to visit the new Primark in Boston (you can see my vlog here), I saw this scarf and fell in love.  These colors are so pretty, and the print just makes me feel like it’s Fall….
