If you happen to have a birthday in December, then you know what I mean when I say, it’s easy for us to get forgotten. With all the holiday hoopla, people just don’t want to think about anything else. In my case, my birthday is Dec 7th, which, for those who know their history, is Pearl Harbor Day… a day that will live in infamy. When I was in school, other kids got candy and cupcakes on there birthdays… I got historic videos about the attack on Pearl Harbor (kids today with Sept 11th birthdays know what I’m talking about). Plus, living in New England, while summer birthday kids got pool parties, the only thing I could hope for is a birthday snow day so I could get a break from watching war documentaries all day.
Luckily, now that I’m a grown up, I can choose how I spend my birthday (which for the last few years has been on stage performing in a holiday play). So I wanted to share a few pics from my birthday this past weekend… not to brag or show off, but to honor those with Dec Birthdays who get forgotten… (more…)
Warning: the explanation of how I came up with this recipe is a little confusing…my own family still doesn’t really get it…. but they all agreed that this dish is yummy, so I guess it doesn’t really matter. Here goes… (more…)
Truth be told, I don’t really send a lot of Christmas cards. I have a few people in my life that I give a gift with a card, and a few friends who I mail cards to. But overall, it just doesn’t seem like enough people to justify buying a pack of cards. So a few years ago I started making my own cards. I like to keep it simple because this time of the year is stressful enough. I got the idea for these from a Boston Bloggers event I went too. Kate from DomestiKated Life showed us how to make gift tags with stripes made from double sided tape and glitter. I was playing around with the idea and I came up with this cute 3D card. It’s so versatile, you can make them in any color with any size/material ribbon. I chose green because I think it’s an underrated Holiday color. Red gets center stage, and it has Valentines Day too. I wanted to give green some attention. Here’s how I made mine… (more…)
Winter has arrived in New England and that means it’s time to get cozy. I discovered my loungewear needed a little updating, so I decided to rediscover Victoria’s Secret (which was an obsession brand for me when I was a teen). Here are my latest purchases…

The abundance of Christmas decorations and Christmas made-for-tv movies being forced upon me reminds me that holiday season is here. It has inspired me to try out some new party looks for the massive (if 1 or 2 is considered massive) number of party invitations I receive every year. I found this teal midi dress at Forever 21, and I loved that it was a modest length with coverage on top but yet still managed to be sexy. It is so sexy in fact that my mother dubbed it too “hoochie” to wear to meet my boyfriend’s grandparents…. (I wore this dress instead). I paired this teal number with pink and gold earrings (also from Forever 21), and a metallic gold bow purse that I’ve had for years. All that combined with my Ivanka Trump strappy heels (also seen here) make this a sexy yet comfortable holiday look…. (more…)
I have to admit, I have a real problem with listening to Christmas music before Thanksgiving. I have always been someone who started planning the holiday season early, and I like to get my Christmas shopping done in advance…. but I just don’t like the Christmas explosion that goes on before I’ve even purchased a Thanksgiving turkey. To be totally honest, I usually don’t listen to Christmas music before my birthday (which is this coming weekend). However, I’m doing a Christmas play this year, and I need some Holiday spirit. So I decided, now that Thanksgiving is over, I would make myself a Christmas playlist for my long car rides to play rehearsal, and the occasional shopping trips (although I do most of my shopping online because crowds make me angry and very un-Christmas Spirit-y). Here are a few favorites that get me in a Christmas-State-Of-Mind…. (more…)
When I was little, at holiday time here in New England there always seemed to be maple-pecan candy around (I use the term “little” ironically, because the way I ate made me a very not-little child). The original recipe calls for a lot of ingredients that are not friendly to the waistline. So I decided to make this vegan version of pecan candies in rice krispie treat form. The recipe is a variation on a marshmallow-less krispie treat recipe that I made here (this is the original recipe). Full disclosure: the ones I made are with honey so they are not technically vegan, but you can easily substitute agave if you are a strict vegan. (more…)
I wrote a rhyming list of things I’m thankful for several years ago, and I tweak it a little every year for my life changes. Here’s what I’m thankful for this year: (more…)
With holiday party season upon us, makeup is getting more festive. So I have a modern take on a 1930s Jean Harlow liquid gold makeup look that is perfect for the holiday season. Using Cover Girl Bombshell shadow in golden goddess, and a Buxom gift set from Sephora, I created this super versatile and easy Buxom Bombshell makeup tutorial.

At a recent Boston Blogger event I had a chance to get some holiday menu planning tips from one of Boston’s top chefs, Jeremy Sewall of Island Creek Oyster Bar & Row 34. Here’s what I learned… (more…)
