Yesterday I shared with you my Halloween Costume, Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl. Here is a makeup tutorial of how I achieved this look…

As a Starlet and a Comedian, the film Funny Girl has a special place in my heart. It’s a biopic of one of comedy’s most legendary sketch comedians, Fanny Brice…. played by legendary diva Barbra Streisand. Since Fanny’s birthday is today, only 2 days before Halloween, I thought it would be a fitting tribute to her to put together a Funny Girl Halloween costume. It was pretty simple. I had a leopard coat and hat already (I mean… what Starlet doesn’t?), did my hair in a side parted updo, and added dramatic makeup…. (more…)

Today would have been famed costume designer Edith Head’s birthday. She dress so many legendary Starlets, and she even did Grace Kelly’s legendary Oscar gown. Since Halloween costume time is here, I thought it would be appropriate to share some of my favorite Edith Head Quotes… (more…)
Even though I’m not a fan of scary stuff, I’m happy to make some “themed” foods and drinks to jump on the Halloween bandwagon. Sangria is a classic cocktail that can be made a hundred different ways, so it can be perfect for Fall. The name “Sangria” comes from the Spanish word for bloodletting because of it’s deep red color. That makes it the perfect Halloween cocktail. I kind of through together my own recipe, and it serves 4 comfortably…. (more…)
It’s no secret that I love movies… but I have never been a fan of scary movies. I don’t like being scared. There are enough scary things in real life, I want my movie life to be an escape from reality. I mean, really, I’m a girl… if I need an adrenaline rush I’ll just walk to my car alone at night. So Halloween is an unusual time for me. I love costumes, themes, and the drama of it… but I hate to be scared. So I have compiled a list of films that I plan to watch this Halloween. Some I’ve seen, some I hope to watch this year for the first time. They all have a Halloween “theme” without being terrifying…. (I hope)
- The Addams Family– this is a “must watch” for me every Halloween
- Chicago– one of the best musicals ever… definitely the best one about murder
- Phantom of the Opera– so dramatic… spooky but not terrifying
- Young Frankenstein– I watched this for the first time last year, and it’s one of my new Halloween favorites

Starlets always want to look chic, but sometimes they have such a busy schedule that an elaborate hairstyle is impossible. Enter my favorite updo. This is truly the quickest, easiest updo you will ever do. Plus, due to the fact that you won’t need to wash your hair as often if you pull your hair up, and the fact that I am using invisibobbles, your hair will actually be healthier than with any other updo. This look is also chic for day or evening. It’s so versatile, easy, and good for your hair that it may even become your go-to style… it definitely has become mine….

You might say that my hair is the first thing people notice about me. I started lightening it when I was in Cosmetology school and I’ve never turned back. I can’t imagine myself as anything but a platinum blonde. Several years ago, when I decided to enter the Miss Massachusetts USA pageant (really just to prove to myself that I could do it), I met with the official pageant hairstylist for a consultation. He suggested that I wear my hair in long loose waves (which is my preferred style anyway). He told me that many girls wear there hair differently for each part of the pageant (ex. down for swimwear, updo for evening gown) so that they don’t bore the judges. I innocently asked if I should do something like that. He then gave me one of the best compliments I’ve ever received. He said, “Honey, there’s NOTHING boring about your hair.”
It was then that I realized, when you have a striking hair color, you don’t have to do much to your hair in order for it to be special. I have also noticed, with the trends of purple, blue, pink, etc hair colors, that any color can look good as long as the hair is healthy and shiny.
So I thought I would compile a list of my favorite hair care products. Now, I will admit that I’m a hair snob. I only use quality salon products. While I’ll happily but drugstore lipstick and eye shadow, I never buy hair care products in a drugstore. You may not need as many products as I use (and you may need different one if your hair is not like mine: fine, stick straight, and bleached), but I highly recommend using quality products. Your hair will thank you. This is what I use….
The traditional way to wear nail polish is to match your nails to your toes. That is still a great way to look polished (pun intended), but a more modern way is to wear coordinating colors on fingers and toes. Here are some color combos to get you inspired…
Do you have any favorite polish color combos?…. and for tips (again, pun intended) for a complete nail polish wardrobe, see this post (more…)

One of the biggest challenges this time of year is how to stay healthy (and look gorgeous) through the holiday season. It all starts with Halloween candy, and then we usually go on an eating binge right up until the last of the champagne is finished on New Year’s Eve. I have always struggled with keeping my weight in check. Some holidays I have been successful and some… not so much. But this year I am determined to not let it get the best of me. So here is my holiday season stay in shape plan… (more…)
