There is no salad more associated with Old Hollywood than a Caesar Salad. It was the favorite of many Starlets. It is also a favorite of my Dad, which is why I decided to make it for Father’s Day. I took a classic Caesar Dressing and made it a little healthier by using this recipe from The Food Network. This recipe uses yogurt instead of the typical egg. I omitted the chicken, and made my own croutons by toasting up some French bread. I used some leftover pancetta and some cherry tomatoes. The result was delicious… (more…)
It’s so important to have goals. There is definitely something to putting your wishes out in the universe. In the past I’ve let seasons go by, wishing things would happen, but never really making an effort. A few summers ago I made a list of goals for summer…just a few silly things that I really wanted to do. I was shocked when all of those things happened, and I had some of the best times of my life. So now I try to make goals each season. I’m in very good company, because some of my favorite bloggers, like The Glamorous Housewife and Cupcakes & Cashmere, do the same thing. Here are some of my goals for Summer 2014: (more…)
After reading a post by The Glamorous Housewife, I was inspired to redesign my “Battlestation”… or as some of you may call it, my makeup table. Growing up, my Mom gave me her childhood desk, with hopes of my becoming a scholar. As I hit my pre-teen years (the term “tween” was not yet in use) the desk quickly became my makeup station. That, combined with the fact that I read fashion magazines as if they were fine literature, were enough to end my parents’ hope of my becoming a Harvard grad. When I moved to my first apartment, one of the first things I needed was a place to get glamorous. Not having much money, I improvised and created this one. And, with a few variations, that battlestation has travel with me all these years… now back in my bedroom at my parents’ house next to my Mom’s old desk. (more…)
It’s no surprise that Starlets love the beach…. and she needs to keep her aura of glamour even in the sand. Most Starlets spend so much time on the beach… and getting photographed there… that she has a collection of swimsuits that make her feel like a Gorgeous Glamour Goddess. Here are a Starlet’s bathing suit wardrobe basics….
It’s no secret that I love Brigitte Bardot (what’s not to love)…. So I decided to make an original Bardot recipe that I found online for Tabbouleh. I tweaked it a little… I used quinoa instead of couscous (I always cook my quinoa in vegetable stock) and I substituted the mint for parsley because the mint in my grocery store didn’t look very good this week. I’m working on an herb garden to make use fresh herbs easier, but it’s still in its infant stages. Since Brigitte is such a devoted animal rights activist, it is appropriate that this dish is vegan… but my version is also gluten free… (more…)
Who doesn’t love a glamorous day spa experience? But what if you don’t have a movie star budget…. You can have a luxurious day spa experience right in your own home using products in your own home, and things you can find in your local grocery or specialty store….
I go on diet kicks now and then… okay, all the time since I was a chubby little girl. I had been trying to jump on the gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian/vegan bandwagon, and I decided I needed a change. I pick up an old favorite book… French Women Don’t Get Fat. It really is a great read. It’s not really a diet, it’s more of a way to look at food differently. It’s about associating food with pleasure and getting the most pleasure out of everything… if that’s not a Starlet way of looking at things then I don’t know what is. I highly recommend you read the book, but I have summarized a few tips to get you eating like a French Starlet… because we can all use a little Brigitte Bardot in our lives… (more…)
